A Moment in Place
A Moment in Place: An Exercise in Environmental Observation and Analysis
Take an imaginary walk out of your front door, briefly noting concrete details such as weather, sounds, and outdoor activity as a few minutes of vigorous walking energizes body and mind. Perhaps it's a beautiful spring or fall day, perhaps blustery winter or languid summer - be aware of how the light and air fall on your skin as you walk. Then, you arrive at (or, if necessary, consciously choose) some particular place in the neighborhood, a place that you have sufficiently noticed in the past to be able now to describe it from memory - perhaps someone's house, a park, an alleyway, a view of the street, or other scene. The place need not be especially beautiful, exotic, or important, nor need it be your “favorite” place - just some particular, concrete place, a regular part of your everyday world.
Having chosen a place, take some time to reflect upon that place from three different perspectives:
