Aha, there it is. One of those guitars that everyone can name from outside the shop window. One of the guitars that no guitar shop is complete without. One of those guitars with an unmistakable, yet subtle sound. The guitar of Jeff Buckley, Keith Richards, George Harrison and countless other legends. The Fender Telecaster. We’ve all had our eye on one at some time or another – could now be the right time to take the plunge and buy it? Let’s find out a bit more about this great guitar first!
Tell me about the guitar
The Telecaster has an ash body and a maple neck plus a maple fingerboard with 21 frets. It has the two standard single-coil Tele pickups at the neck and bridge, volume knob, tone knob and three-way pickup switch. This classic guitar weighs 11 pounds. A simple design for a sublime sound.
What’s so great about it?
If you’re not sure what the Telecaster sound is right now, you’ll recognize it as soon as you start playing. The real genius of this guitar is that it’s able to retain its own recognizable sound through a whole variety of genres. The Telecaster is a staple guitar in blues, bluegrass, rock n’ roll, reggae, jazz and a whole host of other styles. It is, in fact, even possible to play heavy metal music with this guitar.
The good stuff
It’s simple, sleek and straightforward to play. The guitar itself is built for durability and that’s why so many Telecaster players are still on their first one after many years of playing (their ‘soulmate’). I think it’s a great guitar for beginners to learn with, too. There’s nothing overly complicated about it, it’s sturdy enough to take a knock or two, it’s lightweight and as soon as you get your first few songs down you’ll also have the bonus of having the ‘Tele sound’ down.
What’s not to love?
It’s hard to find fault with a guitar whose smoothness and power have been giving us beautiful music since the 50s. One likely fault is that you’ll love this guitar so much that you’ll never want to try a different guitar again, becoming inseparable from your Tele.
Newbies might miss the use of a tremolo, but don’t say it too loud – Tele lovers won’t stand for that kind of heresy!
If you take a look at all the great guitars featured at http://www.theinstrumentreviewer.com/, you’ll be hard pressed to find one as smooth, sturdy, versatile and timeless as the Fender Telecaster. People who love these guitars end up getting one of these at some point in their life. They just do. If you’re just starting out playing guitar, you might as well get yours now – it might be the only guitar you ever buy!
Unsurprisingly, the Telecaster is currently rated on the Amazon website with 4.9 stars out of a possible 5. Hopefully this review has been of use to you and you’re now closer to deciding which guitar is the right one for you. I look forward to hearing your feedback!
